Why Look Away
Lawrence is a highly accomplished musician born and raised in Accra, Ghana, with a distinguished career spanning over two decades in the British Army. His service has taken him across Europe, Canada, Japan, and Afghanistan, enriching his global musical perspective.
A standout performer at major events, he has played at the Help for Heroes Concert at Twickenham Stadium, the Silver Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace, the Queen's Funeral, and the King's Coronation. Beyond military performances, he thrives as a freelance musician, notably portraying 17th-century trumpeter John Blanke in the BBC documentary Black and British: A Forgotten History.
His collaborations include performing with the Chineke! Orchestra on a Hans Zimmer-commissioned piece at the CBBC Proms, performing alongside Mark Rylance in Shakespeare in the Abbey a Globe Theatre production at Westminster Abbey, and as a support soloist to jazz legend Hugh Masekela.
Recently, he was playing as John Blanke again in the BBC's Wolf Hall series, performing live on set.
As a singer-songwriter, he debuted his single Why Look Away at the Ideal Home Show, raising funds for the Soldiers' Charity—blending his artistic talent with philanthropic dedication.
